The AACA Museum at Hershey, a member of the Smithsonian Institution Affiliations Program, displays beautifully restored automobiles, buses and motorcycles in unique scenes and settings. This museum is one of the nation’s newest and largest automotive museums with more than 70,000 square feet of exhibit space and the ability to display about 100 vehicles on three levels.
Project Background
In 2008, a new 11,000-square-foot annex was completed and Museum Curator, Jeff Bliemeister, was looking for a great floor finish for Museums. “We wanted a facility where we wouldn’t be embarrassed to show cars that weren’t on the main floor,” stated Bliemeister. “We wanted a floor finish that not only would look fantastic, but also take the wear and tear of automotive applications,” said Bliemeister.
Strategies/Challenges
The main challenge the museum faced was to ensure that the coating would not only protect against automotive applications but also compliment the cars on display.
Results/Solutions
Based on the needs of the facility, UCoat Medium Grey with UGloss-AF was recommended as it is designed for heavy automotive use and provides a showroom quality finish. “That’s why we chose UCoat It. It’s proven that it can withstand years of abuse from automotive chemicals and equipment. Plus, it has a finish that really enhances the cars on display.” said Bliemeister.
Simeone Foundation Museum used UCoat It floor coating system in multiple areas including a commercial kitchen for private events and their vehicle restoration shop.
The Hemmings Sibley shop features 1,200 square foot area for vehicle restoration. The system chosen is UCoat with UGloss-AF as it provides chemical resistance against oil, gas, brake fluid…
